The Wee Bookshop & Café

The Wee Bookshop and Café is Fight Bladder Cancers unique twist on a charity shop. Located on Station Road in Chinnor, the café adds a splash of excitement to the high street with its vibrant décor and friendly atmosphere. Created in April 2016 by Andrew Winterbottom, Founder of Fight Bladder Cancer, the café not only provides a great spot to eat, drink and chat with friends, but also gives publicity to the charity amongst the local community.

On entry you will notice the welcoming atmosphere and Fight Bladder Cancer’s orange colour running throughout. There are large bookshelves filled to the brim with donated books and DVDs, available to read at the café or to buy. Towards the back are sofas and a children’s play area, which is frequented once a week by mums enjoying a sing-a-long with their toddlers. Not only will kids love the play area but they’ll be amazed by the miniature railway chugging along the top of the shelves. This exciting venue also hosts evening knitting groups, book clubs and private events upon request. During the summertime, the café is particularly popular with runners and cyclists who fill up the outside seating area.

Despite being open for less than two years, the café is already gathering attention having been voted ‘Best Bookshop’ in the Muddy Stiletto 2017 awards. The TripAdvisor page is also full of rave reviews which account for the cafes 5 star rating. One customer comments “you get a friendly welcome, excellent choice of coffee, and a wide selection of books to browse or to buy” and another compliments the “fantastic bookshop and café. Lovely coffees and cakes.”

All of the food is hand-made on site, with an excellent kitchen team cooking with locally sourced ingredients and making freshly baked cakes for customers to enjoy. The café offers a variety of food to cater to everyone’s needs, including lighter lunches, vegetarian and gluten free options. The menu offers include hot breakfasts, salads, paninis which are perfect for either a light lunch or choose something more substantial. The ever-changing specials board offers warming winter dishes such as soups, stews and comfort foods like mac and cheese. For something sweet after your meal the café does not disappoint, offering an array of sweet treats that change daily ranging from a classic victoria sponge and peanut butter cookie dough slices, to our customers favourite mud-cake sandwiches.

The café is open from 9-5 Monday to Thursday, 8.30-5 on Friday, 9.30-5 on Saturday and 10-4 on Sunday and 100% of the profits go straight to Fight Bladder Cancer, so you’ll be eating cake for a worthy cause!
