Kop Hill Climb Festival 2025: Where Heritage Meets Horsepower
September 1, 2025As the autumn draws closers with the cooler air falling autumn leaves, many of us start to slow down in the garden, but it’s certainly not the time to stop.
Autumn is the perfect season to reconnect with nature, plant for the future, and set the stage for your new gardens – from planting fruit trees, shrubs and pretty perennials and thinking of next year’s colour palette.
While spring is often seen as the go-to gardening season, autumn offers more stable conditions for planting trees. This year in particular, the weather has been on our side. The soil is still warm from summer but with the mild conditions, the ground is moist, which encourages strong and established root growth before the coldest winter months arrive.
Giving fruit trees, like apples, pears, plums and cherries, a head start in the cooler months, by the time spring arrives, they’re ready to grow vigorously and, in time, produce an abundance of delicious fruit.
To add a touch of autumn magic, why not plant a colourful favourite like the Halloween Prunus. This is a gorgeous ornamental crab apple tree that conjures up rich shades of orange, and golds, cosy autumnal vibes with its small pumpkin shaped fruit, plus a striking statement garden scene – perfect for the spooky season!
This unique tree is an eye-catching addition to any garden. border, small garden or large container. In the spring, it offers you soft pink or white flowers that attract bees and other pollinators, and in the autumn, the vibrant fruit stays well into late autumn, not only giving natural decorations but a nice treat for the birds.
The Halloween Prunus is low-maintenance, elegant, and offers seasonal interest when many other trees and plants begin to fade. Whether you’re after delicious homegrown apples, a vibrant hedgerow, or a statement tree, now is the time to plant.
Happy gardening!
