Distance: 3.25 miles (allow up to 1.5 hours).

Start: Lane End car park, High Street, Lane End HP14 3ER.

Access Information: Easy walking on good paths with 5 stiles and 6 gates. 2 climbs with a total ascent of 100m.

Refreshments: Grouse & Ale pub, The Chequers Inn and Laceys Farm Shop, Bolter End Farm.

Route:

1. From the rear of the car park, walk straight down Handleton Common to Bullocks Farm Lane. Turn left and cross over motorway past The Chequers Inn to the red post box in front of the flint wall.
2. At the end of the wall, turn right through the gate to Kingwood House. Walk down the driveway to a path to the right of the house. Cross the stile, straight ahead through the farmyard and over the open field down to a kissing gate. Descend the steps, turn left for 300m to a path junction and stay on the main track uphill to the next junction.
3. Turn right down to the bottom of the hill and keep ahead up through Great Wood to the top. Where the bridleway turns left, keep straight on under the overhead cables and through the gate into a field. Cross, go through the next gate and down to a farm track.
4. Cross the track to join a sometimes indistinct path down to the bottom and over a stile into a field. This field can be muddy from horses at times. Stay straight ahead, climb up to cross a stile on the right just before the top of the field. Turn left and left again through a wide gap in the hedgerow. Turn immediately right and, keeping to the left of the hedgerow, follow the path to a farm track and turn right along it.

5. Walk along to the driveway to ‘Fryers Farm’, cross and through the gate ahead. Where the fence on the right ends turn right to pass through a gate in the hedgerow ahead. Turn left along the field edge and cross the stile and the road. Turn right along the verge and cross the motorway bridge to a turning immediately on the left for ‘E.J.Churchill’.
6. Turn left along the driveway for a few metres and right over the stile into woodland. Follow the path to a ‘Y’ junction and fork right twice to reach a narrow lane. Turn right and immediately left into the field. Cross the field and bear right to the gap in the fence near the right-hand end of the houses. Turn right along the surfaced path to a road.
7. Turn right and follow the road for 100m to a path on the opposite side. Crossover past the railings and follow the main path to finally emerge into Lane End High Street. Turn right along the High Street to return to the car park.
