Sparkling Drama, The Eagles, a Spooky Thriller, A Fair Cop, and Folk Music
September 1, 2026This stile-free walk starts in the picturesque village of Great Missenden, home of the Roald Dahl Museum. There are fine views back across the Misbourne valley.
Distance: 2.5 miles
Time: 1.5 hours
Start: Great Missenden Station, Station Approach, Great Missenden HP16 9AZ. Parking at the station or in the village.
Access Information: Easy stile-free walking with one long gradual climb and numerous gates.
Refreshments: There are several pubs and cafés in the village.
Route:
From the station entrance, turn right downhill to the mini-roundabout and right again along the High Street. Walk past the Roald Dahl Museum on the left and continue to a turning on the right, Whitefield Lane.
- Turn right along the lane to the end, go under the railway bridge and past the junction with Trafford Road.
- Continue uphill past Gipsy House, formerly the home of Roald Dahl. At the top of the hill, continue along the lane past Angling Spring Farm and stay on it as it soon becomes an unsurfaced track. Follow it for 240m to a gate on the right just before the track starts to descend.
- Turn right through the gate and stay in the same direction along the top of the wood for 300m to enter a field.
- Keep straight ahead along its edge to a gate, go through it and the next one onto a lane. Turn left to the road and right along the verge for 90m to the gate on the right opposite New Road.
- Go through the gate and along the path into the field. Stay directly ahead down the middle of the field to a gate at the entrance to Angling Spring Wood. Go through and straight down the main path to leave the wood through a further gate into a field. There is a lovely display of bluebells in Angling Spring Wood in April. Continue to descend through the field to a gate at the bottom.
- Do not go through, instead bear diagonally left on a fenced path between the gardens to reach an unsurfaced track (Trafford Road). Turn left and walk along to the main road. Turn right over the railway bridge to finish at the station.
