NHS staff have to remove their scrubs before they leave hospital, place them in a laundry bag, then place the bag with the contents into a 60 degree wash when they get home, thereby preventing cross-contamination. At last, something we could do to help our wonderful NHS workers! Members were alerted and set to work finding suitable fabrics. Sheets, duvets and all those pieces of unused fabric so many of us keep for a rainy day came into their own. Workboxes were raided for tape and cord to make drawstrings. One member suggested adapting pillowcases- yet another good idea. Longwick WI provided over 40 bags in a very short space of time. It felt really good to be able to help in some small way.
Prior to lockdown we formed a ‘Befriending Group’, in partnership with AGE UK, focused on Longwick residents who need additional support in their lives. Regrettably, lockdown has put this on hold, at the moment; however, some of our members are providing telephone support where possible.
