FUR-EVER FRIENDS

February 20th is Love Your Pets Day – 24 hours dedicated to our cherished cats, dogs and everything else besides. With that in mind, why not look at fun, heartfelt ways to make it a day they’ll never forget.

They greet us at the door, snuggle up against us, keep us company, and brighten even the dreariest days. Love Your Pets Day is our chance to thank our loveable companions, at the same time giving them some well-deserved extra attention.

Pampering the pooches

Dogs love to feel part of the pack and the best way to celebrate is with time spent together. Start the day with an extended walk to a new park or trail; many dog-friendly parks have areas for off-lead fun, giving them a chance to run free.

Pack a few of their favourite treats for training exercises along the way – a fun way to keep them mentally engaged and reward their good behaviour. Back at home, consider a dog-friendly spa day. Whether it’s a thorough brushing session or a trip to a local dog groomer, your pup will appreciate the special attention.

Also consider indulging them with a new toy or a puzzle feeder to keep them entertained. And for a final touch, prepare a homemade dog treat or pick up a pup-friendly cupcake – there are plenty of pet bakeries catering to canines who deserve the best.

Celebrating with the cats

Cats have their own way of showing affection and pampering them on their special day is all about tapping into their love for curiosity and comfort. Set up a cosy space with their favourite blanket, toys and perhaps a sprinkle of catnip – they’ll love a spot to relax that’s all their own.

Interactive playtime is essential for keeping cats active and stimulated, so try a few rounds with their favourite wand toy or laser pointer. Adding a new scratching post or climbing tree can also liven up their space, especially for curious cats who love new perches and places to explore.

When it’s time to wind down, a gentle brush (for those who enjoy it) or a lap to curl up on will go down a treat. And, if they’re feeling fancy, you could capture the moment with a mini photoshoot – a few treats as incentive and they might just grant you a few photogenic poses.

For other pets, even something as simple as cleaning out a fish tank, refreshing sawdust or interacting with them for longer, and with love, can bring out the very best not just in them, but you as well!
